The Northern Nevada-based organization, which stretches into rural and frontier communities, will receive more than $100,000 of pro bono digital marketing services to help them expand their reach and increase their impact.

JOIN Inc. is a 501(c)(3) community benefit organization with the goal of helping Nevadans break the cycle of poverty through education, job training and other occupational services aimed at helping individuals reach financial stability and personal success. They connect businesses, schools, government agencies, other nonprofits with employment-ready career seekers to bridge the gap between workers and careers. Their work spans all 13 Northern Nevada counties as well as the Tahoe Basin.

COVID-19 took an especially hard toll on Nevada, due to the state’s economic reliance on tourism and hospitality. In part because of the extremely high unemployment rate and the forced pivot of many skilled workers, we found JOIN Inc.’s mission timely as well as beneficial to all Northern Nevadans.

We look forward to using our full creative digital performance marketing skillset over the rest of the year to help connect JOIN Inc. with more Nevadans. Minden, NV – Thanks to a partnership with Douglas County and available CARES Act (Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act) funding, JOIN Inc. is organizing an initiative to assist local individuals and businesses this year. Individuals whose employment was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and are seeking career assistance are encouraged to take advantage of JOIN Inc.’s services from now through December 2020.

Through the CARES Act funding career seekers can:

· engage in career exploration activities and assessments to discover a well-suited career path,

· receive tuition assistance for training programs in an industry of their choice,

· “learn and earn” through on-the-job training with a local business partnered with JOIN Inc., and

· freshen up their digital and employability skills through JOIN Inc.’s Success Skills program.

NEVADA – JOIN Inc. was one of five Nevada organizations chosen to receive a $175,000 investment from Google.org for its innovative proposal to create economic opportunity in the community. JOIN Inc. will launch Career Bound NV Success Skills, a training program designed to ensure Nevadans have access to basic technology and employability skills training needed for successful employment.

Nevada employers cite a lack of technical and soft skill proficiency among those applying for entry-level positions. As Nevada’s economy continues to evolve, thousands of Nevadans will face the challenge of entering and advancing in a workplace requiring technological comfort and proficiency.

In urban, rural and frontier communities across Northern Nevada, Career Bound NV Success Skills will offer free training courses in a variety of technical and employability skills as determined valuable by employers in each region. Classes will be available to all, giving priority to those with significant barriers to employment, such as first-time job seekers, veterans, those in poverty, formerly incarcerated, incumbent, underemployed, minority and second-language learners

Castle estimates Career Bound NV Success Skills will help 1,750 people learn varying levels of technical and employability skills, preparing them for success in the local and regional job market.

“Success Skills is the critical link between the unique workforce opportunities of the near future and individuals seeking first-time employment, retraining for new jobs or advancing their career path.”

Beginning Nov. 19, JOIN Inc. will compete to win an additional $125,000 through a People’s Choice public vote. This additional funding will double the impact of the Career Bound NV Success Skills program, allowing for targeted training opportunities in rural Nevada.

The Governor’s Office of Economic Development estimates that by 2024 there will be 630,000 open jobs in Nevada through business expansion, relocation and those aging out of the workforce. Nearly two-thirds of these jobs will require specialized training or certification. On the other side of the equation, employers state that 60 percent of job applicants do not have the necessary skills needed for today’s jobs.

Castle believes the Career Bound NV program will help close that gap. "This is a collaborative effort between WNDD and JOIN in bringing together employers and students to address one of the region's greatest economic development needs of creating and maintaining a talent pipeline of skilled workers.”

Douglas County, NV – Joshua Salie, a Douglas High School 11th grader, was ready for his interview with a local manufacturer. “I’m so glad I went to boot camp first so I would know what to say and do,” he said. Salie, along with 14 other Douglas High and Aspire Academy attended a two-day Professional Skills Boot Camp hosted by Career Bound NV (CBNV), a division of JOIN Inc., on Aug. 6 and 7.

Salie is part of a Douglas County School District career development pilot program through JOIN Inc.’s new Career Bound NV division. The program prepares high school students to interview, be hired by local businesses and, once on-the-job, gain critical employability skills guided by professional mentors.

Career Bound NV’s goal is to connect talented, motivated young people with local businesses through paid work experiences that will launch them on a career pathway to a high-skill, high-demand, living wage job after graduation.

Dr. Somer Lyons and Dr. Amanda Brewer, owners of Valley Eyecare and Eyewear Gallery, were one of the first employers to sign on to the program, hiring their first intern in July.

“The Career Bound NV program allows us to engage with students who are interested in entering our profession to see what unique skills they bring and what skills they may need to develop,” said Dr. Lyons. “The process will help us get better at finding and training new team members.”

The Career Bound NV program requires students to apply, meet minimum qualifications and complete a rigorous two-day boot camp that focuses on developing professional skills needed for career success.

Douglas County Economic Vitality Manager, Lisa Granahan, welcomed students to the inaugural event. “After two years of planning, I am so excited you are here,” she said. “Career Bound NV is a unique opportunity for both you and the employer to benefit. You get work experience, mentorship and a paycheck while the employer expands their workforce with young, local talent.”

During the two-day boot camp, sponsored by the Hop and Mae Adams Foundation, students heard from business professionals about expected on-the-job behaviors; practiced professional communication, conflict resolution and interview skills; and completed the WorkKeys National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC), which certifies essential work skills needed for job success.

As the boot camp came to an end, students earned a certificate of completion indicating they are ready to interview for paid positions. Arturo Garzon, Constituent Service Representative for Congressman Mark Amodei, also presented each student with a recognition letter from the Congressman, commenting, “I wish my son had completed a program like this before he graduated from high school.”
